The heartache comes when a child struggles to express what they need, how they feel, or what they are trying to say. It can be frustrating for the child and emotional for the family when words do not come easily, when others misunderstand, or when a child feels left out of conversations, learning, or play.
But there is also joy.
Joy comes in every small breakthrough: a new word, a clearer sound, a shared smile, a gesture, a choice made independently, or a child finding a new way to connect. Every step forward matters.
For children with speech, language, social communication, or developmental challenges, communication may look different. Some children speak with words. Others use gestures, pictures, signs, devices, facial expressions, or sounds. Each form of communication is meaningful and deserves to be recognized.
With the right support, children can build confidence, reduce frustration, strengthen relationships, and participate more fully at home, at school, and in the community.
At CJ Riders Foundation, we believe every child deserves to be heard, understood, and supported. Communication challenges can be difficult, but they do not define a child’s potential.
Every child has something important to share.
And every step toward communication is a step toward connection, confidence, and hope.ution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English.
